#1 Check your brushing technique: Sometimes the problem arises if you are too enthusiastic about dental care. If you are brushing too much, or too hard or using too much pressure and in the wrong direction (horizontal brushing) your gums recede, receding gums exposes sensitive areas of the tooth.
#2 Consider Changing your Toothbrush & Toothpaste: If you are using a hard bristled toothbrush and whitening toothpaste, try a toothpaste specially formulated for sensitive teeth. Whitening toothpaste has abrasive agents which can erode the enamel causing sensitivity. Change your toothbrush to a soft or ultrasoft bristled brush recommended for sensitive teeth.
#3 Minimize acidic food & beverages: Acidic diet/ drinks can erode enamel causing sensitive teeth. Sports/energy drinks, fruit juices, and sour candies may also contribute to an acidic environment in the mouth.

Receding gums can be a sign of gum disease, eventually loose tooth support. Sensitivity could also indicate a cavity, or be a warning that you’re grinding your teeth at night.
